I feel I have been a bit heavy in my past few posts. Whether it is my critiques, style, or the topic of the post itself, they do tend to lean a bit negatively, even if my message is a positive one. So, I would like to take this post to be a little more light-hearted, a breath of fresh air if you will. I have absolutely no direction or idea behind this post and am only writing it because I cannot fall asleep (cannot wait for my 11:30 class), but I aim to still be my sincere and authentic self. So, in other words, this post will most likely just be my ramblings about whatever pops into my head, don’t expect anything profound.
I guess I’ll first talk about why I am up. I do not know why, but some nights I have trouble going to sleep or staying asleep. If you asked my mother, she would say it is because I stay up late all the time while I’m home, and while that is true, I do not think that is the only reason behind my poor sleeping habits. Now, while I think that is not the only reason for my sleeping habits, I must say I have absolutely no idea what causes it. I have always been like this since I was a child if my memory serves me correct and can only ever sleep if I am truly exhausted or by brute force. It is a tad annoying and am considering getting something to help me fall asleep, like melatonin or something similar, so hopefully this is solved soon(ish).
Okay enough complaining, I guess I’ll talk about a highlight of my school year so far. Other than seeing (most of) my friends again, I guess I’d have to say walking my friend’s dog. Now mother I know you are sitting there saying, “Why don’t you ever walk the dogs at home?” and to that I say that is a good question. I probably should start, whoops. Anyway, my friend’s dog is this sweet, but hyper, little golden retriever puppy. He’s a sweet ol’ pup, but goodness he can be a handful sometimes and that includes on walks. Firstly, poor guy is terrified of cars, which is extremely unfortunate as if you want to walk pretty much anywhere on campus you will have to deal with them. Most dogs usually pull you forward because they are so excited to go on a walk, well not him if you are too close to a car. He will actively pull you backwards, so you’re stuck in this eternal tug of war until he finally is brave enough to continue forward. Secondly, he loves picking up anything off the ground, and when I say anything, I mean ANYTHING. I had to pull out pinecones, sticks, gum balls (the tree variety), pieces of bark, and even some weird piece of paper which I did not enjoy touching. That’s not even mentioning the countless other things he wanted to pick up, one of which being a used cigarette (start them young I suppose). I can’t even count how many times I stuck my hand in his mouth to grab something, nor do I want to remember.
But other than those two flaws, he honestly is a great walking dog. He doesn’t pull too much, listens pretty well, and we even ran into another dog, and he did a great job of not minding too much. Also, he is incredibly good at ignoring people, which is incredibly handy on a college campus. I can only remember one time he really pulled to go see someone and I think that’s because we were standing still. So even though I am doing this as a favor for my friends, I do genuinely enjoy walking him and aim to walk him many more times this semester, as my schedule allows of course. Wow, I sure wrote a lot about walking a dog. Didn’t know I had that much to say about the little bugger.
I just remembered that this Sunday we are supposed to get a load of snow, most predictions are saying over a foot. I am absolutely convinced that for once the forecast won’t lie to me, that we will get all the snow they say we will. Maybe I will finally be able to put this long-standing feud with weathermen behind me, but if we get anything less than a foot, I will never believe the weather again. It will also be humbling because one of my friends is skeptical about the snow. She, “Doesn’t want to get her hopes up,” or something silly like that and I have been telling her this entire week we will get a load of snow. So please, make sure to flush your ice down the toilet and wear your pajamas inside out, if not for the snow, then for me. Please, I’m begging you.
Is there anything else interesting I should talk about before wrapping this up? Oh, I did go to a trivia night with two of my friends this week, would have been three but one flaked (you know who you are). We did pretty alright considering the circumstances and could have squeezed into the top three if we had gotten the last question right, which how on earth is anyone expected to know this. Here’s the question from my memory: True or False. All octopi are venomous, including cuttlefish and squid. Got your answer? Well apparently, it’s true. I knew the cuttlefish and squid were, but I just couldn’t believe that all octopi are. Evidently, they are, though only one has venom potent enough to harm a human. So dumb. Though, I am proud of myself for getting the question right about if the Basking Shark is the oldest shark species still alive. That is false, the Greenland Shark is. If you ever get those questions in trivia, you can thank me now.
I suppose that is enough for today as I should probably be getting to bed. I will most likely write another post this weekend, on a less fun topic no doubt, but maybe you hate the joy and whimsy of this post so that’ll be right up your alley. I also invite you all to take a step back from your busy hectic lives and breathe a little bit. Sometimes you just need a second or two to reflect. It’s beneficial, helps you to not get so caught up in life all the time. Anyway, that’s all for me. I wish you all the best in health, work, school, relationships, whatever you need. Ciao!
